Car service Reading
Car Servicing Reading
There’s a big difference between a car that runs and a car that runs well. At Mobile Mechanic Reading we have a real appreciation for cars and vans, and we do everything we can to keep them in the best possible condition.
Regular car servicing is the difference between a smooth-running engine and a clanking, spluttering one that’s likely to break down. We carry out a comprehensive service on your vehicle and get it into tip-top condition for you.
Types of service
Full and Interim Car Servicing
Two levels of service, competitively priced, with servicing from £80 + VAT.
-
Interim service
A lighter service between full services, to help you keep on top of your car’s maintenance, especially if you cover a lot of miles.
-
Full service
Our full, or major, service, following your manufacturer’s guidelines for your car’s mileage and age.
Not sure which your car needs? Send us your registration and mileage and we’ll tell you, with a price.
Collection and delivery
Collect and Return Car Servicing
Looking for car servicing near you? With our collection and delivery service you don’t even need to leave home. All you do is hand us your car keys. We collect your vehicle from your home or work address and deliver it back to you when the work is done.
Most customers prefer it this way: there’s no waiting around in a garage, and no need to find someone to give you lifts for the day.
After every car or van service, you’ll get a full report of our findings. We set out which repairs are needed and which are advisory, and explain each one, so you can make informed decisions about looking after your vehicle.
Service or MOT?
Car Service or MOT: What’s the Difference?
Many people confuse car services with MOTs, and they do have some similarities: both involve a mechanic inspecting the vehicle. The difference is that an MOT test only decides whether the vehicle is roadworthy, while a car service is about keeping it running at its best.
A service follows detailed guidelines from the manufacturer, and that methodical approach means any faults or inefficiencies quickly come to light. The MOT is a legal requirement, but for servicing we always suggest following your manufacturer’s schedule, whether that calls for a full or an interim service.
Prevention, not cure
Catch Faults Before They Get Expensive
One of the biggest advantages of regular servicing is that you’re more likely to catch faults before they turn into significant problems needing expensive repairs. A service is far more cost-effective than letting issues fester in your engine and eventually paying out a big sum to put them right.
Preventing problems isn’t only better for your bank balance. It also means you’re far less likely to face an emergency caused by an engine fault, one that could put you or your family at risk or leave you stranded at the roadside.
If anything does need attention, we’ll explain it and quote before we go ahead with any car repairs.
Your manufacturer’s schedule
Mobile Car Service Reading
Service intervals are usually set as a number of miles or a length of time, whichever comes first, and they vary by manufacturer and by when the car was built. Keeping to that schedule makes sure your vehicle runs as efficiently as possible.
That matters for the environment too. A well-maintained engine is more fuel efficient, and less wasted fuel means fewer greenhouse gases needlessly released into the atmosphere. It also puts money back in your pocket, because you’ll be filling up less often: a win-win.
As part of the service, we reset your car’s service reminder so it tells you when the next one is due.
Peace of mind
Car Service in Reading
Looking after your vehicle also gives you peace of mind. Not knowing whether your car is working well, or on the brink of a costly breakdown, can be a real worry. Being proactive keeps you ahead of any problems.
A full service history adds value when you come to sell your car, too. It gives buyers confidence, especially in a private sale.
Between services, our vehicle health check is a simple way to have your car looked over if something doesn’t feel right.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Car Servicing Questions
How often should I book a car service?
It doesn’t matter where you live: how often your car needs a service depends on the car. The traditional rule of thumb was every 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever came first, and for vehicles over 10 years old that’s still a good guide. It keeps your car in good running order and helps avoid a more costly repair later, prevention rather than cure.
More modern cars, with better components, materials and lubricants, should be fine following the manufacturer’s guidelines, which you’ll find in your handbook or easily online. Intervals of 20,000 miles are becoming more common for many vehicles, but don’t be tempted to stretch them further: some procedures and part replacements are due at set intervals, and they matter for your car’s performance.
Do you provide full and interim car servicing?
Yes. We offer both a full (major) service and an interim service, so you can keep on top of your vehicle’s maintenance. Servicing starts from £80 + VAT.
Why choose Mobile Mechanic Reading for my car service?
Our reviews should give you complete peace of mind that our services are carried out professionally, and that we only do work your vehicle actually needs.
With our collection and delivery service, all you do is hand us your keys. We collect your vehicle from your home or work address and deliver it back when it’s done, so there’s no waiting around in a garage or arranging lifts for the day.
After a car or van service, we give you a full report of our findings, with the repairs that are needed and those that are advisory, explained so you can make informed decisions.
Is an oil and filter change a service?
Oil and filter changes usually form part of a service, depending on the mileage and the time since the last one. But they’re only part of it: a service includes many other checks on your vehicle, so an oil and filter change on its own won’t get your service book stamped.
Do you remind me when my car needs servicing?
We can give you a date reminder, such as 12 months from your last service. If you’re a high-mileage driver, though, your car will need servicing more often.
Most modern vehicles also show a reminder on the dashboard, often a spanner symbol, when you reach the mileage the manufacturer recommends for a service. As part of every service, we reset that reminder for when your next service is due.
